Summary

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - Part love story, part workplace drama, this sharply observed novel is a witty critique of the false judgments we make in a social-media-obsessed world。 New York Times bestselling author Sophie Kinsella has written her most timely novel yet。

Everywhere Katie Brenner looks, someone else is living the life she longs for, particularly her boss, Demeter Farlowe。 Demeter is brilliant and creative, lives with her perfect family in a posh townhouse, and wears the coolest clothes。 Katie's life, meanwhile, is a daily struggle--from her dismal rental to her oddball flatmates to the tense office politics she's trying to negotiate。 No wonder Katie takes refuge in not-quite-true Instagram posts, especially as she's desperate to make her dad proud。

Then, just as she's finding her feet--not to mention a possible new romance--the worst happens。 Demeter fires Katie。 Shattered but determined to stay positive, Katie retreats to her family's farm in Somerset to help them set up a vacation business。 London has never seemed so far away--until Demeter unexpectedly turns up as a guest。 Secrets are spilled and relationships rejiggered, and as the stakes for Katie's future get higher, she must question her own assumptions about what makes for a truly meaningful life。

Sophie Kinsella is celebrated for her vibrant, relatable characters and her great storytelling gifts。 Now she returns with all of the wit, warmth, and wisdom that are the hallmarks of her bestsellers to spin this fresh, modern story about presenting the perfect life when the reality is far from the truth。

My opinion on the book kept going from yes to eh。 Back and forth as I continued to read。 I love the morality of the fact that no ones life is perfect。 Katie and her boss’ relationship was so well written。 However I found Katie so angry and immature。 And that really bothered me。 Sometimes you just couldn’t root for her。 I also hate that the author had to include romance。 I love romance but this book was about Katie and her boss。 Why did romance need to be thrown in?!

It was really basic and uneventful。 If you need to book in a pinch, it’s fine to read but you can predict everything that happens。 There isn’t any stand out writing or a love interest that really pulls you in。 I like that it was more of a focus on her discovering herself versus being caught up with a guy, but again even that wasn’t all that interesting。

Was fun and easy to read, is a true Millennial Girls book:) << can relate

In My Not So Perfect Life, Sophie Kinsella demonstrates every writing skill。 Her plotting, dialogue, characterizations, and sense of pace are all superb, and Kat/Katie is an appealing main character。 Her bad luck and her doubts often threaten to overwhelm her, but Kinsella also shows us her strength, her humor, and—especially—her warmth。 Though a reader shouldn't expect more than a romp in this novel, it is a well-executed and entertaining romp beginning to end。 In My Not So Perfect Life, Sophie Kinsella demonstrates every writing skill。 Her plotting, dialogue, characterizations, and sense of pace are all superb, and Kat/Katie is an appealing main character。 Her bad luck and her doubts often threaten to overwhelm her, but Kinsella also shows us her strength, her humor, and—especially—her warmth。 Though a reader shouldn't expect more than a romp in this novel, it is a well-executed and entertaining romp beginning to end。 。。。more

My (Not So) Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsellastarted out pretty negative but ended on a positive note。 It’s not what I expected from a Sophie book。 I’m not sure about recommending this book but there are so many other great Sophie books。 ⭐️⭐️⭐️@SophieKinsellaWritter#SophieKinsella#My(NotSo)PerfectLife#My(NotSo)PerfectLifeBySophieKinsella #Bookstagram@bookspaigeread

Per everything Sophie Kinsella, this was another cute rom com of a working woman - from the country, trying to make it in the big corporate branding world in London。 Through mishaps and misunderstandings she is laid off, but gets back at her boss, all while falling for a guy at work, who she begins to realize is the boss's boss! Full of heart and humor, this one really hits the spot。 Per everything Sophie Kinsella, this was another cute rom com of a working woman - from the country, trying to make it in the big corporate branding world in London。 Through mishaps and misunderstandings she is laid off, but gets back at her boss, all while falling for a guy at work, who she begins to realize is the boss's boss! I actually found myself really enjoying this one because of the character growth and the friendship formed! I loved that the misunderstanding between the MC and her ex-boss stood as a lesson for the both of them and the twist was a fun add on。This book felt like a book about perception, friendship, family, and judgment。 I loved that aspect! What I found kind of random was the romance。 It didn’t really have much of a leg to stand on and didn’t really make sense。 It was very sudden and felt almost I actually found myself really enjoying this one because of the character growth and the friendship formed! Oke, novel ini asik。 Banget。Kombo penulisan Sophie Kinsella plus terjemahannya beneran bikin enak buat dibaca。 Ngalir banget, jadi bisa untuk bacaan sekali duduk。 Meskipun premis ceritanya umum digunakan banyak novel lain, tapi Sophie Kinsella berhasil meramu cerita ini dengan apik tanpa bikin bosen。Terus juga chara develpoment-nya bagus dan ngga kerasa kayak dipaksakan。 Aku ngerasa siapa pun yang baca ini bakal relate dengan Katie。 Karakter Katie kayak 。。。 apa ya, bener-bener mencerminkan banya Oke, novel ini asik。 Banget。Kombo penulisan Sophie Kinsella plus terjemahannya beneran bikin enak buat dibaca。 Ngalir banget, jadi bisa untuk bacaan sekali duduk。 Meskipun premis ceritanya umum digunakan banyak novel lain, tapi Sophie Kinsella berhasil meramu cerita ini dengan apik tanpa bikin bosen。Terus juga chara develpoment-nya bagus dan ngga kerasa kayak dipaksakan。 Aku ngerasa siapa pun yang baca ini bakal relate dengan Katie。 Karakter Katie kayak 。。。 apa ya, bener-bener mencerminkan banyak orang yang merasa hidup mereka kurang dibanding orang lain。 Haha。 Hubungan dengan Demeter di akhir juga manis banget deh。Menurutku, buku ini bagus buat selingan untuk ngehilangin stres tanpa perlu ngerasa stres sama isinya。 :)) 。。。more

This is definitely not what I usually read, but I enjoyed it so freaking much。 It was incredibly corny, predictable, and not that well-written, but for some reason that didn't matter that much。 I really enjoyed it, and would recommend it to someone who needs a mindless read。 This is definitely not what I usually read, but I enjoyed it so freaking much。 It was incredibly corny, predictable, and not that well-written, but for some reason that didn't matter that much。 I really enjoyed it, and would recommend it to someone who needs a mindless read。 。。。more

Is anxiety-lit an existing term? I keep running into books like this where the main character is just so miserably anxious all the time about everything, and it is too much like my own 20s, I don't want to revisit that! Rating 3。8。 Morale of the story。。。。。。 no one 's life is perfect。 No one really knows the whole story behind anyone's public face。 We should learn to be content but keep plugging away。 Rating 3。8。 Morale of the story。。。。。。 no one 's life is perfect。 No one really knows the whole story behind anyone's public face。 We should learn to be content but keep plugging away。 。。。more

Sophie's writing is like go-to "The Office" episodes for me, acts as a brilliant filler between heavy reads。 Definitely lightened my mood after Handmaid's tale。 This book touches base with the perfection we fake on social media and is likely to give anyone who reads it food for thought about whether we really need to be in the race for perfection。 I just found the romance between Katie & Alex a bit cheesy, otherwise a great feel-good read。 Sophie's writing is like go-to "The Office" episodes for me, acts as a brilliant filler between heavy reads。 Definitely lightened my mood after Handmaid's tale。 This book touches base with the perfection we fake on social media and is likely to give anyone who reads it food for thought about whether we really need to be in the race for perfection。 I just found the romance between Katie & Alex a bit cheesy, otherwise a great feel-good read。 。。。more

BOOK BLURBKatie Brenner has the perfect life: a flat in London, a glamorous job, and a super-cool Instagram feed。 OK, so the truth is that she rents a tiny room with no space for a wardrobe, has a hideous commute to a lowly admin job, and the life she shares on Instagram isn’t really hers。Until her not-so-perfect life comes crashing down when her mega-successful boss Demeter gives her the sack。 She has to move home to Somerset, where she helps her dad with his new glamping business。 Then Demeter BOOK BLURBKatie Brenner has the perfect life: a flat in London, a glamorous job, and a super-cool Instagram feed。 OK, so the truth is that she rents a tiny room with no space for a wardrobe, has a hideous commute to a lowly admin job, and the life she shares on Instagram isn’t really hers。Until her not-so-perfect life comes crashing down when her mega-successful boss Demeter gives her the sack。 She has to move home to Somerset, where she helps her dad with his new glamping business。 Then Demeter and her family book in for a holiday, and Katie sees her chance。 Does the woman who has everything – actually have such an idyllic life herself? Maybe they have more in common than it seems。。。 END After a disappointing Sophie Kinsella read in January (see my review of 'Love Your Life'), I was a little wary of picking up another of her works in case it was just as poor。 However, I needn't have worried - 'My Not So Perfect Life' is Kinsella gold。 Full of fluffiness, slapstick humour, well rounded characters and little plot twists to keep you guessing。 I really liked the premise of story, and it had me asking myself about the image people portray of themselves on social media。 The main character Katie did just that, with interesting results。 I enjoyed the contrast of Katie's life in London and her life in Somerset on her family's farm, I could picture the settings very clearly。 Of course, with any book of this genre there is a love story involved, but I felt it neither added not took away from the plot - which at it's heart is one about loving yourself, and being true to the real you。 Would highly recommend for a nice easy read, 4 stars。 。。。more
